Module 1

Layout & Tools

In our first session together, we explore the interface and layout of Ableton’s Session and Arrangement views. We begin our journey familiarising ourselves with the different devices Ableton includes and explore how these tools will help shape our compositions. Furthermore, we will focus on Ableton’s own onboard drum machines: Impulse & Drum Rack.

module 4

Electronic Music Theory

In Module 4 we tackle the basics of music theory head-on, focusing on the part it plays in creating electronic music. We dissect scales, voicings and common chord progressions so that we can implement these new skills into our productions.

module 2

Beats & Rhythms

In Module 2 we enter the world of rhythm. We dive deep into understanding the core elements that we use in electronic music to craft strong drum rhythms. Through understanding how Ableton’s onboard drum machines work, we are able to compose our first beat to begin our composition.

MOdule 5

Structure & Composition

In Module 5 we pull together everything we have learnt in the previous lessons and begin to form a track from this knowledge base. We develop our skills and understanding of song structure as well as study the techniques used by prominent producers to form finished tracks.

module 3

Basic Synthesis & Melody

In Module 3 we move into the world of synthesis, working with Subtractive synthesis within Ableton’s onboard synthesizer Analog. We will gain a strong understanding of how to create the synthesised sounds you will need to bring your productions to life. We will then use our new skillset to craft our first bass line and generate melodic ideas.

module 6

Final Arrangement & Mixdown

In our final module we fine-tune the composition we have been working on over the previous 5 weeks. For the finale part of the course, we learn the basics of how to Mix our track to give it a professional feel and ensure it stands out. By the end of this module, you will have generated the skills required to produce your own original track.

**Elective options are available if student is competent in a particular area.

“This was the perfect Ableton course for me as I have always been interested in creating electronic music but didn’t know where to begin. The course covered all the stages in music production and I now feel comfortable with using Ableton. The one on one tutoring is so much more valuable than other types of courses available. Louis is a fantastic teacher, he went through each module at a good pace, welcomed any questions, and helped with any difficulties I had. He gave constant constructive feedback and I feel like if you really want to learn how to produce music, then this is the best way to do it. I will definitely do other courses with Louis in the future to further my Ableton knowledge. 100% recommend “
